Wellbeing
At Wakehurst PS, we know that student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, supported and ready to engage. Whether it’s mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, our staff are here to listen, support and help every child thrive—both at school and beyond..
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
At Wakehurst PS we do this through:
- caring teachers who create welcoming and inclusive classrooms
- access to school counsellors, psychologists and specialist staff
- wellbeing programs like The Resilience Project that build emotional literacy and connection
- initiatives that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- support for students who are new or transitioning between year levels
- clear behaviour expectations and a focus on respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work in partnership with families
- development of individual health care plans where needed
- open communication about student wellbeing and available support

Positive Behaviour for Learning
At Wakehurst PS, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) to create a safe, supportive and positive school culture.
Our whole school community promotes three key expectations:
- respect
- responsibility
- personal best.
These shared values replace traditional rules and guide behaviour in all settings.
Students earn Wakehurst Wise Awards for consistently meeting expectations, which lead to bronze, silver and gold achievement awards.
How our PBL reward system works
Students are expected to act according to the school's values. The merit system includes 'Wakehurst Wise Awards'. Self discipline in the playground, classroom and all learning centres will be rewarded with a 'Wakehurst Wise Award'. Students are responsible for collecting their 'Wise Awards' to work towards the following levels of achievement.
Wakehurst Wise Award - Presented to students who consistently demonstrate our school expectations.
Bronze Award - Awarded in the classroom after receiving 5 Wakehurst Wise Awards.
Silver Award - Awarded at assembly after earning 3 Bronze Awards.
Gold Award - Awarded at assembly after earning 3 Silver Awards. Students also receive a $2 canteen voucher.
Platinum Award - Awarded at assembly after earning 3 Gold Awards. Students also receive a Wakehurst Owl Badge in recognition of their outstanding achievement. Students also receive a $5 canteen voucher.
