Learning
At Wakehurst PS, we teach the NSW curriculum aand provide a broad range of learning experiences to support every student’s growth. We place a strong focus on building solid foundations in literacy and numeracy, recognising these as essential for success in learning and life. Our teachers use evidence-based strategies to engage students and help them achieve their personal learning goals.
Why choose us for your child’s learning?

Strong foundations
At Wakehurst PS, we focus on building the essential skills students need to thrive — academically, socially and emotionally. This helps them feel confident, capable and ready for the future.

High-quality education
Our students engage in a broad and balanced curriculum, with skilled teachers who foster curiosity, challenge thinking and celebrate progress. We help every student discover their strengths and succeed.

Inclusive and personalised learning
Our teachers adapt lessons to meet individual needs, interests and learning styles. Every student is supported to learn at their own pace in a safe, inclusive environment.

Extension opportunities
Students who are ready for greater challenge are offered enrichment tasks, extension groups and statewide programs. We support all students to grow, stretch and reach their full potential.
What students learn
At Wakehurst Public School, students engage with the full range of learning areas in the NSW curriculum. Including English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History and Geography (HSIE), Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), and Creative Arts.
Through explicit teaching and engaging learning experiences, students build strong foundational skills in literacy and numeracy, develop critical and creative thinking, and learn to work collaboratively. Our programs are designed to support individual growth and prepare students for success in high school and life beyond the classroom.
We also offer a range of enrichment opportunities in sport, the arts, STEM, leadership and public speaking to help students discover their interests and develop their potential.
At Wakehurst Public School, students may participate in Special Religious Education (SRE) or Special Education in Ethics (SEE), depending on the availability of approved providers.
During the enrolment process, families can nominate their preferred option from the providers offered at our school.
Students who don’t attend SRE or SEE take part in quiet, supervised activities during this time. These may include reading, drawing or other individual tasks they bring from home or choose at school to help them stay settled and engaged.

Some students need greater challenge to stay engaged and continue growing. At Wakehurst PS, we identify high potential learners early — students who demonstrate advanced thinking, learn at a rapid pace, or show strengths in areas such as problem-solving, creativity, leadership or sport.
We provide targeted support and differentiated learning that keeps them motivated, deepens their thinking and helps them reach their full potential.

Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- community connections: through excursions and local programs.
