About our school

Principal's message

At Wakehurst Public School we equip students with the tools to be successful, confident and creative individuals. This is achieved through quality teaching and learning programs that set high student expectations and inspire our students to be their best in a complex and dynamic society. We also offer a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities in sport, choir, dance, drama, debating, robotics, student leadership and environmental education.

OUR SPACIOUS PLAYGROUND

Our spacious playground and play equipment offer space and opportunity for children to enjoy the outdoors through play and our environmental programs. Our school includes remnants of Duffy’s Forest which gives the students the opportunity to study the native flora and fauna first hand. We also run a ‘green team’ program in our vegetable gardens where students can plant and harvest their own produce.

OUR PRIORITIES

Quality Teaching and Learning – We have a commitment to continue to develop quality learning environments across our school with teachers actively involved in Quality Teaching Rounds. Our teacher professional learning targets key areas such as literacy (reading and writing), numeracy, technology and student wellbeing.

Student Wellbeing – Our students are supported by effective wellbeing practices based on the principles of Positive Behaviour for Learning. We model and teach our school expectations of respect, responsibility and personal best and we have a continued focus on developing resilience practices. Every student in our school is known, valued and cared for.

Flexible Learning Spaces and Technology – Our fully air-conditioned learning spaces have been redesigned to create student-centred and future focused learning environments. All students are supported and challenged in the classroom. They work towards their individual goals, and receive timely feedback on their learning. Our teachers incorporate technology including coding, robotics and Cyber Safety so that technology augments and redefines student learning. Across years 4 and 6 a Bring your own Device (BYOD) program using Chromebook devices has been successfully implemented to support student learning using the Google suite of products.

These are some of the reasons why you should enrol your child at Wakehurst Public School. We look forward to welcoming you to our community and are happy to answer any questions you may have. In the meantime, please take our Virtual Tour which is available on our website.

Kind regards

Caroline Desmond
