Mathematics

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • statistics and probability.

At Wakehurst PS, Selected students in Years 5 and 6 participate in the Maths Olympiad, a mathematics competition which involves students from all over Australasia.  Each Maths Olympiad consists of five separate contests held approximately one month apart.  Their overall aim is to encourage students to develop important problem solving skills in an enjoyable, challenging environment.
